International Students

International students must adhere to all standards for in-person instruction as they would for a semester on campus in Urbana-Champaign. For these students, a minimum of 9 credits must contain in-person instruction.

Internship Guidelines for Students (F-1 Visa)

• CPT is no longer available for City Scholars internships.
• Pre-Completion OPT may be an option for eligible students.
• OPT has application costs, processing timelines, and implications for your future Post-Completion OPT.
• City Scholars does not guarantee an internship match. Talk with ISSS before applying for Pre-Completion OPT.

If you are interviewed by an employer:

1. Talk with the employer early about your need for employment authorization.
2. Work directly with Illinois International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) to understand your individual eligibility and timeline.
3. Do not begin employment until you have the required employment authorization.
