Eligibility and Requirements

Eligibility

Startup City Scholars is open to Grainger Engineering undergraduate students of all majors interested in entrepreneurship and at least sophomore, junior or senior credit standing.

Students from other U. of I colleges or departments may apply to be considered for the program, but they must have a Grainger Engineering student on their team.

Teams must consist of:

  • One Grainger Engineering undergraduate student.
  • One U. of I. student who will enroll in and attend the course in person in Chicago.
  • One University of Chicago undergraduate student who is taking the class for credit (must be a sophomore, junior or senior).

Program Requirements

Overview

Location: One day per week in Chicago
Dates: Spring semester only, 9 weeks (First week of January - last week of February). The course follows the UChicago academic calendar.

Deadlines

  • CNVC Application Deadline | November 7
  • Accepted CNVC applicants will be notified by November 20
  • Individuals looking for teams should identify a team to join by the end of December

TE 441 Engineering City Scholars: New Venture Creation (2 credit hours, optional)
Instructor | Professor John Thode

  • Takes place in-person at the University of Chicago 
  • Thursdays from 5-8pm

Application

  • Form a team and submit an official project proposal or identify and join a team 
  • One team member must commit to enrolling in TE 441

Eligibility

  • Grainger College of Engineering student, sophomore, junior or senior standing
  • One team member is required to take the course for credit while traveling to Chicago each week of the course
